Christian Values & RE
Article 14 You have the right to choose your own religion and beliefs. Your parents should help you decide what is right and wrong, and what is best for you.
Our school motto is ‘Aiming Higher, Achieving More’ a philosophy that underpins all that we do. St Catherine’s is a Church of England School and is proud to have been caring for and educating the children of Heathfield for over one hundred years. We endeavour to provide the highest quality of primary education within the context of a caring and supportive Christian ethos.
The key Christian values of Friendship, Justice, Courage, Perseverance and Compassion inform and support all that we do.
Children have a good understanding of how these link to Christianity through our well planned collective worship programme, ethos, code of behaviour, and curriculum opportunities.
Collectively, we aim to:
* Foster a love and enjoyment of learning.
*Create a happy, spiritual and purposeful environment in which children can develop socially, physically, creatively and intellectually.
*Encourage children to respect and care for themselves, each other and the environment.
* Help children recognise their own self-worth and know that their views and opinions are valued. That each of them is special and unique.
* Stimulate children’s natural curiosity about and love for the world around them, helping develop their ability to question and search for answers.
* Value and encourage the active partnership between school, home and the wider community.
At St Catherine’s and indeed across the USF we have developed a range of themes and topics through which collective worship takes place. Key themes include;
Friendship, Justice, Courage, Perseverance and Compassion and the value of all human life.
We recognise that in our schools we have children from a variety of faith backgrounds and that many children have no religious background at all.
Great care is taken in our collective worship to ensure that all children feel valued and special and that their integrity as human beings is consistently upheld.
OUR SCHOOL PRAYER;
This is our school.
Let peace dwell here.
Let the rooms be full of contentment.
Let love abide here.
Love one another, love life itself and love God.
Let us remember that as many hands build a house,
So many hearts make a school.
